When Karl Lagerfeld took the creative helm of CHANEL in 1983, he set out to honour the eponymous founder’s pioneering 2.55 bag with his own re-interpretation: the Double Flap. The progeny design resulted in two equally iconic updates – a leather-woven chain strap and interlocking CC fastening. The additional namesake flap on this black diamond-quilted iteration sits below the larger exterior one (whose zip pocket is rumoured to have been used by Coco Chanel to hide love letters) to separate and protect the main compartment. Each one is handcrafted at the label’s Ateliers de Verneuil-en-Halatte by artisans with a minimum of 4 years spent training to master every meticulous technique in the fifteen-hour and 180-step process.
